Frankenstein on Cardboard (IF Creature)

Thought I'd make some art work to sell on my Etsy shop...(soon to open). This is a freehand painting that I did by eye (no tracing) on a bit of an old cardboard box. It took me quite a bit longer than I thought (7 or 8 hours probably). Painting in gouache, for the unaccustomed, is quite a task. You put some paint on and seem to lift an equal amount off. Its a balancing act...but one which you either love or hate, The good thing is that it dries quickly allowing fast(ish) production. The fact that its on cardboard means that I will let it go at a reasonable rate...It will also be cheaper to post. I'll also be printing out some of my pen work (cartoons) onto greetings cards made out of recycled brown kraft paper. I'm looking after the planet!!!..recycled everything!! If anyone is interested in buying this before the shop opens...send me an email for more details!
It is unframed and comes in the typical gouache matt finish...Varnishing ruins gouache. (its not a brilliant painting and lacks skills of good painters, but it is a Pen Mover original and will sell for a very fair price )... If it sells I'll post an edit here marking it as Sold!!!!
I am guessing that this weeks Illustration Friday theme will be Halloween based...so on Friday I'll probably link this there..(unless the word is pretty).

Saw this quote and thought I'd try and do a caricature of the guy who said it...The American poet, Robert Frost ( 1874-1963). I always get lost in poetry...which is good. I never try and translate.I think the same goes for all Art....Maybe its best left unquestioned. I remember at Art school being told something like: 'objects lose their aesthetic value when given a name.' I think poets use their words for their aesthetic value.

I drew this work of art in my little sketch book this morning whilst waiting in a hospital corridor for somebody else's appointment. The only pen I had was running out of ink and I didn't for some reason have my normal 3 or 4 fountain pens with me..With little ink I had one chance of making this thing work!!.It was a small work and various people passed me in my seat trying to see what I was drawing...it inspired me to draw mad faces with my pen...But these guys were the doctors and not the patients. All in a days insanity...

Patrik Berg at GMC

As some of you may know all ready, I love guitars and have spent a lot of my life trying to learn how to play them. To try and help my quest I go to a site called Guitar Master Class. The place is full of amazing guitar instructors (some of the World's Best) and people trying to get better like me....no kidding, if I had a place like this to learn 23 years ago, I'd have been playing
Patrik Berg from Australia is one of those teachers, with 70 students a week, who also studies guitar at GMC. Last week, Patrik, who claimed to be drunk at the time, offered to make GMC'ers their very own personal musical 'Jingle' via the forums there. I was very quick off the mark and told Patrik that if he made me a 'Jingle', I would draw him something. My GMC member name is 'Headbanger' and he wrote this piece of music dedicated to me called ' Headbangers Unite'. Thanks Patrik, I love it!!
My drawing for him (above) is based on his forum signature quote : "When your fingers bleed, you're getting somewhere." ... Hahaha...somehow, I feel sorry for his students!!

Koosje Koene - Inspiration Station
Koosje Koene is an illustrator who works out of Amsterdam in Holland and has written a post about The Pen mover, aka me and my work here. She wrote some nice things about me and deserves a mention or two about her. Edit: I thought I remembered the Illustration Friday word correctly, I even wrote it down correctly I thought...'Fluid', I wrote on my notepad. So of course I made my drawing sort of fit. The problem was that after posting this as 'IF Fluid'...I had noticed on the IF site that the word was actually Liquid....Maybe it fits better now....no...no it doesn't. OK so who cares? I don't. Its a bald guitarist with a long cable where the electric signals flow down towards the amplifier like liquid......OK?? OK NOW????
